The Science Behind The Four Expressions
The Four Expressions Perception
Focusing on consciousness as an expressive state of being, rather than just a concept, shifts our awareness that energy is not stagnant, but flowing. There is a distinct top→down flow of these levels of conscious expression beginning with the highest vibration or consciousnes:
Divine → Soul → Mind → Brain
Each level expresses itself in its own unique way, integrating as the human condition. By asking each level how it wants to express itself, we relieve the brain for the need to control so it can become a receptor instead of a megaphone. Relinquishing the illusion of control allows us to Manifest (a verb; to reveal with clarity) what creative expression is waiting to come into physical reality. Adding a Neuro-Anchor trains us to shift from one expression to another with the touch of a finger and the asking of a question.
The Default Human Perception
Focusing on consciousness as a concept, rather than an expression, creates the illusion that consciousness is a somewhat stagnant state of being, rather than an energetic flow. The Brain begins with itself, the lowest vibration of consciousness and attempts to flow from the bottom→up:
Divine ← Soul ← Mind ← Brain
This perception requires the brain to solve the problem of expanding upward by utilizing systems of thought and behavioural control. While positive effects may exist, it can be laborious (an adjective describing tasks or processes that require a significant amount of time, effort, and perseverance.) Such systems are meditation, religions, spiritual practices, self-help programs, therapies… These can require enormous effort that leaves us in circular patterns unless we are able to reverse the flow of expressive energy from bottom-up to top-down.
The Finger-Squeeze Mechanism
Your fingertips contain the densest cluster of mechanoreceptors (tactile nerve cells) in the human body. In neurological body maps (known as the Cortical Homunculus), your hands hijack nearly one-third of your brain’s primary sensory processing space. Squeezing the fingernail sends high-priority electrical signals to the brain that physically interrupts your standard, repetitive thinking loops. Linking each finger with an expression through repetitive conditioning, builds memory pathways that allow us to quickly shift our mental state into the corresponding flow of expression.
The Science of Heart-Brain Coherence
Invoking the emotion of a heartfelt desire alters your physical cardiovascular rhythms, causing the heart to beat in an ordered pattern called Heart-Brain Coherence. This harmonious cardiac signal acts like an electromagnetic anchor that quiets the brain’s chaotic analytical networks, opening up clear communication pathways across your nervous system.
The Science of Asking vs Controlling
Why Asking is More Effective
The difference lies in neurological down-regulation versus executive stress escalation. Asking triggers a parasympathetic state that opens processing capacity. Control through efforting triggers a sympathetic threat response that locks the brain into rigid, localized loops, reflecting back to itself its own thoughts and beliefs.
Neuro-Cognitive Feature |
Approach 1: Genuine Asking |
Approach 2: Control Techniques |
Primary Neural Network |
Default Mode Network (DMN):The brain becomes naturally quiet, present, and receptive.
|
Fronto-Parietal Control Network:The brain goes into immediate problem-solving overdrive. |
Autonomic Nervous State
|
Parasympathetic (Rest/Digest):Heart rate slows, leaves defense mode and enters its natural state of healing and safety. |
Sympathetic (Fight/Flight):Heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tension increase as your biology prepares for fight or flight. |
Dominant Neurotransmitters |
Oxytocin, Serotonin, AcetylcholineReleases of “feel-good” and bonding chemicals, making you feel emotionally safe, calm, content.
|
Cortisol, Adrenaline, Dopamine:Releases stress hormones and drive-fueled chemicals, cause a surge of sharp energy and motivation a accompanied by tension or fear of failure. |
Cognitive Mechanism |
Attentional Surrender & Openness:You stop trying to manipulate or force an outcome, which opens your mind to actual curiosity, deep listening, and learning.
|
Hyper-Focus & Performance Anxiety:Creates internal pressure and anxiety about getting it wrong. |
Cortical Map Impact |
Global Neural Integration:Areas of the brain work in harmony, leading to intuitive breakthroughs and creative solutions. |
Localized Executive Overdrive:The brain forces energy into one localized processing center, burning a massive amount of mental fuel, creating the drained feeling. |
Asking with a Genuine Heart
When you approach a shift with a “genuine heart,” you are practicing what neuroscientists call attentional surrender and intentional vulnerability. This disarms the ego-centric self.
- Deactivation of the Ego Center
- DMN Down-Regulation: The Default Mode Network (DMN) manages your self-referential thought, ego, along with past and future anxiety.
- Asking genuinely requires dropping defenses, immediately dampening DMN activity. Invoking the energy of hope overcomes the energy of disbelief.
- This mimics the neural states during deep meditation or psychedelic-induced ego dissolution, allowing for expanded perception.
- Parasympathetic Dominance
- Shifting your intention to an authentic, non-demanding request activates the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve sends 80% of its signals from the body upward to the brainstem, then to the Ascending Reticular Activating System (ARAS), which is the brain’s master control network for alertness, wakefulness, and shifting between states of consciousness.
- This releases acetylcholine and oxytocin, slowing the heart rate and increasing Heart Rate Variability (HRV). A high HRV is scientifically linked to greater neuroplasticity and emotional resilience, making the brain highly receptive to new neural pathways.
- Global Neural Integration
- Without the filtering mechanism of a rigid ego, the brain experiences hyper-connectivity.
- Different regions of the brain not normally communicating with each other, begin synchronizing their electrical oscillations (specifically in the alpha and theta bands), creating the “energetic flow state” of higher consciousness.
Control Techniques
Trying to force a shift through rigorous control techniques relies heavily on the Fronto-Parietal Control Network and willful executive function. Maybe why many find meditation difficult.
- The Hyper-Frontal Trap
- Transient Hypofrontality Deficit: Higher states of consciousness naturally require the prefrontal cortex (PFC) to quiet down (hypofrontality) so you can perceive without filtering.
- Control techniques do the exact opposite—they over-activate the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.
- This keeps you trapped in analysis, calculation, and judgment, ensuring you stay in a standard beta-wave loop, even if you think you are not.
- Sympathetic Drive and Cortisol Spikes
- Control implies a gap between “where you are” and “where you want to be.” The brain perceives this gap as a problem to be solved or a threat to overcome, triggering a mild sympathetic nervous system response.
- The release of cortisol and adrenaline narrows your visual and cognitive field.
- Evolutionarily, stress forces you to focus on immediate physical survival, which completely blocks access to abstract, higher-order spiritual or energetic perception.
- Neural Gating and Resistance
- The harder you try to force a neural shift, the more the brain utilizes lateral inhibition. This is a mechanism where active neurons suppress surrounding networks to focus purely on the task at hand. For instance, meditation as a task rather than an observed experience.
- By forcing a specific technique, you accidentally blindfold your sensory processing to the broader, subtle energetic inputs required to experience higher awareness.
Find Your Place
Having expressed myself, if you don’t align with my terminology of Divine or Soul, feel free to substitute with your own words, because it will only make a difference in your brain, not your experience. Don’t allow the brain to turn off because of words.
This method works within any spiritual, religious, self-help or scientific framework because it does not speak to beliefs, it is experiential. Feel free to explore the experience without changing anything in your life.
